Sevilla returned to the
Champions League spots thanks to a 0-2 victory over struggling Zaragoza. The
home side had not won for eight games in a row, and under pressure coach
Víctor Muñoz decided to change his system and play with two
strikers. But even though the visitors were theoretically tired after their
midweek UEFA cup tie, the locals were unable to penetrate a defence which have
only let in six goals in twelve games, and César had to be on his toes
to stop a couple of efforts from Jesús Navas.
The keeper had to leave the
field five minutes before the break though after being shown a red card for
handling the ball outside of the area, and Valbuena took over between the
sticks. For a few minutes that seemed to inspire them to better things, and
Sergio García hit the post as they pegged their opponents back. But a
few minutes in to the second half Saviola beat the offside trap to fire a shot
low past the keeper, and the visitors were in front. Víctor made a
couple of changes, but there was no reaction, and substitute Luis Fabiano could
have increased the lead when he hit the post. With the game coming to an end
though Daniel Alves did make it two on a quick counter-attack, leaving
Víctor's job hanging on a thread. |
