Atlético Madrid have
still to live up to their early potential, and they were held once again to a
disappointing 1-1 draw by a depleted Espanyol side who rested several of their
key players after their gruelling UEFA cup tie the previous Thursday. Luccin
fired the locals ahead with a spectacular shot from outside of the area in only
the eighth minute, but just two minutes later Jarque headed home Juanfran's
corner to level the scores. And the action continued throughout the first half,
Fredson shooting in to the side netting and Moisés bringing a good save
out of Leo Franco, and Kezman shooting just wide at the other end.
The second half continued in
the same vein, with referee Daudén Ibáñez deciding that
Moisés had brought Fernando Torres down outside of the area when the
locals claimed a penalty. De la Peña came on and produced a delightful
chip which just cleared the crossbar, and Maxi headed over the top against his
old side. Domi cleared another effort off the line soon afterwards with Kameni
beaten, and Galletti was penalised for handling the ball in the area when he
felt he should have had a penalty for a push in the back. Finally though the
points were shared, keeping the visitors two points away from the drop zone and
their hosts floating in mid-table. |
