Last week's leaders Osasuna
were held 0-0 at Getafe, and after Barcelona won at Real Madrid later in the
evening they found themselves behind Frank Rijkaard's team on goal difference.
The Pamplona based side didn't get going at all in the first half, and Ricardo
had to be at his best to keep out efforts from Cotelo, Gavilán and
Güiza. Pernía also went close a couple of times, and Gavilán
hit the post with another effort close to the break.
Calatayud had not been
troubled at all in his league debut for his new side, with Delporte and
Cruchaga failing to find the target the only time his opponents got close.
Aguirre's frustration finally got too much, and the coach had to watch the rest
of the game from the stands after being shown a red card for insulting the
referee on the half hour mark. He was still able to direct operations though,
and the introduction of Webó for the second half at least inspired
Muñoz and Romeo to put the local keeper to the test.
Still Bernd Schuster's side
were on top, and Ricardo was in action again to keep out Güiza, Paunovic
and Riki. Riki also had a couple of penalty appeals turned down by Lizondo
Cortés, but by then Aguirre had pulled the wagons in to a circle,
defender Cuéllar replacing Romeo as the visitors settled for a point.
The match ended without goals, but at least both sides came away with
something. |
