Athletic Bilbao drop out of
the European spots after losing 1-2 at home to Málaga. There was little
to talk about in the first eighty five minutes, with keepers Aranzubia and
Arnau in control. An Orbaiz free kick brought a good save out of the latter in
the first half, and Duda kept Aranzubia in work with a couple of efforts either
side of half time.
But with six minutes to go
Lacruz failed to clear a header in to the area from Morales, and Edgar was on
hand to drive the ball in to the net. The defender made up for his mistake
though in the last minute of normal time, steering the ball past Arnau after
Llorente headed on a cross.
A draw seemed to be on the
cards, but with the final whistle due, Hidalgo fired a shot over Aranzubia to
restore the lead and give his side three points which takes them out of the
relegation zone. There was no time for more. |
