The Champions League took
it's toll this week, with none of the four Spanish participants able to win.
Villarreal could only manage a 1-1 draw at newly promoted Cádiz, and
they ended the game down in the relegation spots. Pellegrini made five changes
to the side, but they were pegged back from the start and could have been
behind had Oli not headed straight at Viera early on, and had referee Velasco
Carballo not disallowed strikes by Enrique and then Jonathan Sesma for offside
later in the first half.
Up to then the visitors had
only caused any work for Armando with a weak header from José
Marí, but eight minutes before the break the ex Atlético forward
took advantage of a poor clearance by De Quintana to put his team ahead.
Cádiz equalised though on the stroke of half time when Oli got on the
end of Enrique's free kick to head past Viera.
Villarreal got off to a
better start in the second half, Arruabarrena heading over the bar around the
hour mark. But Viera had to make a couple of important saves from Sesma as the
locals pushed forward looking for a first home win. In the end though they had
to make do with a point apiece, which wasn't really what either side was hoping
for. |
