Getafe and Athletic Bilbao both started their match with a chance of joining the joint leaders at the top of the table, but in the end they cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw. The home side were on top in the opening minutes, Riki having a penalty appeal turned down when felled by Gurpegui and Güiza putting a long shot wide. Yeste tested Luis García at the other end in an isolated attack, but Güiza got the goal the Madrid based side deserved a few minutes later, albeit that there was a question of offside in the play.

Before half time though Athletic were level, Casas showing that Del Horno won't be missed when he came from the back of the penalty area to head home Yeste's corner. But for the rest of the match they were happy to sit back and defend the point, Aranzubia making a reaction save from Belenguer's header and Güiza and Riki both firing efforts over the bar later on. In the end though the two sides settled for a point which means they both still occupy Champions League spots at the end of the weekend.
