Disappointment for
Atlético Madrid after a promising pre-season campaign, their new look
strike force unable to find the net as they were held to a 0-0 draw by
Zaragoza. Carlos Bianchi had brought in some exciting new faces, and in the
opening minutes it looked like a matter of time before they would score. Kezman
fired an early shot wide, Petrov and Fernando Torres brought good saves out of
the ex Real Madrid keeper César and Kezman connected with a cross in
from Petrov to fire another effort against the upright.
Zaragoza's only real chance
in the first half was a shot from a few yards out by Sergio García which
the youth international striker somehow managed to put over the bar with the
goal at his mercy. After the break though they got back in the game, and Leo
Franco had to be at his best to keep out Cani and Savio. Bianchi turned to
Ibagaza and Galletti for the last few minutes, but it was more of the same, and
in the end both sides settled for a point. It was not what they were expecting
at the Calderón stadium. |
