Espanyol's hopes a Champions League spot took a serious blow after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Osasuna, and their only hope now of making it to the top four is if they can beat Athletic Bilbao in their last match with Betis and Sevilla both losing. Both goals came in the first half in unusual circumstances, the visitors opening the scoring when Maxi charged down a Morales clearance in the third minute, the ball flying up over the head of Elía. The Navarrans pushed for an equaliser though, Kameni keeping out three or four shots before Lopo turned Delporte's cross into his own net twenty minutes after Maxi's goal.

Kameni was in action again before the break to keep out a dangerous Pablo García free kick, but the visitors should have gone ahead on the hour mark when Velamazán got the ball in to the net only to see his strike ruled out by referee Iturralde González after one of his linesmen incorrectly ruled Maxi offside. Maxi himself could have cored a few minutes later had he passed to a colleague rather than trying to shoot himself, but when Tamudo fired a late shot past the post Lotina's side had to settle for a point which at least takes them close to a place in next season's UEFA cup.
