Deportivo la Coruña lost ground on the teams above them after losing 1-4 against Racing Santander, and they ended the weekend six points behind Valencia in tenth position. The Galicians got off to a good start, Dudu Aouate having to tip a dangerous free kick from Luque over the bar early on. And the Ctalan born striker gave his side the lead midway through the first half when he latched on to a cross from Munitis to beat the keeper.

Coloccini could have extended the lead when he headed a corner just wide of the post, but Javi Guerrero and Torrado gave out warning signals that their side was still in the game when they brought good saves out of Munúa either side of half time. And a few minutes after the restart the Cantabrians drew level after the keeper could only push up a shot from Guerrero, Benayoun following up to drive the ball in to the net.

That knocked the stuffing out of the locals, and a few minutes later Racing took the lead after the defence could only half clear Morán's corner, Benayoun striking a spectacular volley from the edge of the area which left the keeper motionless. Worse was to come when Regueiro set up Guerrero for him to spoon the ball over the head of Munúa, and Benayoun rounded off a great night both personally and for his side by completing his hat-trick five minutes from the end. It was a fourth victory for Nando Yosu's side in the Riazor stadium in recent years, and they move nine points clear of the drop zone.
