Osasuna moved a step nearer to safety after beating Racing Santander 1-0, their first win in 2005 ending a run of twelve games since they last took the three points. Javier Aguirre's side had the better of the first half, Valdo heading wide and Webó having another header saved by Aouate, and Morales having a penalty appeal turned down after he was brought down in the area.

Three minutes in to the second half they finally took the lead after a quickly taken Pablo García free kick, Morales getting above the hesitant keeper to head on for Webó to steer the ball in to the net. And Valdo could have increased the lead when he drove a shot against the post a few minutes later.

The Cantabrians rallied at the end though, Elía keeping out an effort from Javi Guerrero and Benayoun hitting the post. But it was not to be, and the Pamplona based side draw level on points with their opponents, with the head-to-head goal average in their favour and a game still in hand. Aguirre breathed a sigh of relief.
