An exciting match at the Nou Camp, where leaders Barcelona salvaged a point with the last kick of the match in a 3-3 draw with fourth placed Betis. The Andalusians caught out their opponents early on when Joaquín latched on to a pass from Edu to beat Valdés on a counterattack, the first goal the keeper had let in for 417 minutes in the league. A couple of minutes later though Rivas was sent off after giving away a penalty on Deco, and Eto'o levelled the scores from the spot.

The Catalans were clearly missing the suspended Márquez and the injured Puyol though, with Fernando Navarro making a rare start in the centre of the defence, and Betis restored the lead when Oliveira ran on to a long pass from Marcos Assunçao to shoot low across Valdés. Gerard came close to levelling the scores again before the break but Doblas managed to get a hand to his bouncing shot, and at half time Rijkaard decided to sacrifice the midfielder to bring on an extra forward, Maxi López.

The big striker had a chance to score soon after coming on, shooting wide from close up after a long move in which Doblas had tipped a shot from Eto'o on to the bar and then blocked an effort from Giuly. And the keeper was in action again soon afterwards to turn a shot from Deco over the top. But the Andalusians were ever dangerous on the breakaway, and with just over an hour gone Oliveira put through Joaquín for him to make it three with a shot which hit both posts before going in.

Barça kept up the pressure, Xavi shooting wide and Lembo clearing a header from Ronaldinho, but they could not find a way through until referee Pino Zamorano awarded a second penalty when Belletti fell under a challenge from Edu. Eto'o once again converted the kick, and only another good save from Doblas prevented Maxi from equalising. But in the fifth minute of injury time, Van Bronckhorst ran on to a long Deco pass to lift the ball over keeper and save the day.
