Real Madrid rounded off a disastrous week with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of their tiny city neighbours Getafe, and they are now eleven points behind leaders Barcelona with only ten games left. Except for the suspended Beckham, Luxemburgo kept faith with the side who were knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus midweek, but despite a good start they were given a run around. Early efforts by Raúl and Roberto Carlos came to nothing in front of a steady Aragoneses, and the Brazilian left back had to head a curling Craioveanu corner off the line with Casillas beaten.

Ten minutes before the break though Raúl Albiol sent the home fans wild with his first goal for the club after Helguera spooned a cross up into the air, a great relief for the youth international who only a few months ago almost lost his life in a car crash. And two minutes after the restart ex Madrid B captain Riki added a second, picking up Cotelo's cross to beat Casillas and keep up the record of winning goals by former Madrid players this season.

Madrid threw everything forward after that, but Aragoneses was on top form and kept out efforts from Samuel, Figo and Roberto Carlos. An injury to Gabi after a hard tackle by Gravesen deprived the locals of their best player, but Michel could have increased the lead before Solari finally pulled one back with an excellent volley from outside of the area. It was not enough though, and the league is now Barcelona's for the taking.
