Sevilla and Valencia cancelled each other out in an exciting 2-2 draw, a result which keeps the Andalusians in fourth spot, a point and a place ahead of their rivals. Both teams started nervously, and the only action for most of the first half were a couple of weak efforts at Palop (returning once again for Cañizares) and a cross from Fabio Aurelio which Mista headed wide. Five minutes before the break though Renato got free down the right wing, and his cross was met by Jesuli, who produced a spectacular flying volley to bounce the ball in to the net.

Sevilla's lead only lasted five minutes though before David Navarro got on the end of Aimar's free kick to steer a header down past Esteban, and Mista came close to putting the visitors ahead soon after the restart when he headed against the bar and then saw his follow up shot blocked on the line by Alves. A few minutes later they did take the lead with a quick passing move which ended with Fabio Aurelio slipping the ball on to Aimar for him to shoot past the keeper.

It looked as if Antonio López was on for his second win since taking over from Ranieri, but referee Megia Dávila ruled that David Navarro had handled deliberately in a challenge with Baptista inside the area, and the Brazilian forward stepped up to score his twentieth of the season from the spot. Darío Silva put an effort over the bar before Baptista had another chance with a second penalty after he was fouled by Ayala, but this time he put his kick over the bar. And the visitors could have won it themselves when Xisco headed into the net in injury time only for the strike to be ruled out by the referee for what he judged to be a foul on Alves.
