Espanyol and Betis shared the honours in a 2-2 draw at the Montjuic stadium. Sevilla's defeat on Saturday meant that the winner would occupy the fourth Champions League spot, and the game got off to a lively start, with Kameni turning a Marcos Assunçao free kick onto the post early on.

It was the locals who took the lead though when De la Peña's wide free kick bounced past everyone in to the net with just under half an hour on the clock. However it could have been all square at the break, Kameni tipping a shot from Oliveira over the bar and referee Rubinos Pérez waving away appeals for a penalty when a free kick struck Oscar Serrano on the arm in the penalty area.

Assunçao equalised early in the second half when Kameni could only push out a long free kick into his path, and Serra Ferrer threw on Joaquín and Fernando, who had been rested after a gruelling cup match midweek. With ten minutes to go Tamudo appeared to have sealed it for the hosts when he won himself a penalty after clashing with Juanito, converting the spot kick himself. But the two substitutes combined for Fernando to head a late equaliser for his side and earn them a deserved point.
