Betis kept up their recent
fine form, and they stay in sixth spot, just two points behind city rivals
Sevilla, after a comfortable 4-0 win over bottom club Numancia. The Andalusians
were three up by the break, Juanito starting things off when he got on the end
of Joaquín's corner to head the first goal on the quarter hour mark. Ten
minutes later Marcos Assunçao made it two from a trademark free kick
which Nuñez got a hand to but couldn't stop, and things looked even
bleaker for the visitors when Otxoa picked up a second booking, leaving his
side with ten men. However they had their best chance of the match just a few
minutes later, Tevenet firing a shot against the post and Doblas saving from
Ros and Pineda on the follow up.
It was just a flash in the
pan though, as Oliveira got on the end of a jinking run from Joaquín to
fire in a third on the stroke of half time, and then added a fourth just two
minutes after the restart when Varela set him up. The Brazilian striker could
have completed his hat-trick a few minutes later had Nuñez not kept him
out, but by then Betis were thinking of their midweek cup tie with Gramanet,
and Serra Ferrer brought on fresh legs to save his players for that match. In
the end a sixth home win in a row for his side, and probably the most
comfortable of the season. |
