Atlético Madrid lost
an opportunity to close up on the leaders after they were held to a 1-1 draw by
city neighbours Getafe. César Ferrando's side had most of the early
play, but both Salva and Fernando Torres failed to convert chances in the
opening quarter of an hour. The hosts started to get back in the game though,
and Ferrando made what was to be an inspired change, bringing on Jorge for Sosa
to allow Ibagaza to move into the centre. And less than a minute later the
substitute had got his name on the scoresheet, firing the ball into the net
after Sánchez Broto had made two consecutive saves from Torres and then
Salva.
The visitors seemed to be on
the way to victory when Pulido was sent off for a second bookable offence just
before the half time whistle. But Craioveanu hit the post from a free kick as
the hosts fought back, and half time substitute Pachón levelled the
scores when he got on the end of Riki's cross after a good team move later in
the second half. After that there were few scoring chances, although Getafe
could even have won it when Vivar Dorado went close in the dying minutes.
