Deportivo kept in touch with the chasing pack after they picked up a point in a 2-2 draw at Mallorca. It was a lively game, with numerous chances for both sides in the first half, Luque firing two free kicks wide against his old club early on and new boy Okubo almost getting a goal at the other end after charging down a clearance. The Japanese striker impressed the crowd when he insisted on returning to the field of play after a bad kick in the knee from César in only the third minute, and he showed some promising touches throughout the match.

The visitors though were getting on top late in the first half when Sergio and Valerón both shot wide of the target, and only four minutes after the restart Luque ran through past three or four defenders and took a clever back-heel return pass from his ex Mallorca team mate Diego Tristán to draw out Westerveld and score. Mallorca got back on level terms a few minutes later when Okuko set up Luis García for him to head an equaliser, but Luque restored the lead soon afterwards, firing the ball back past Westerveld after the Dutch keeper had saved from Munitis.

Two minutes later though the match was all square again, Okubo losing his marker to head Campano's long cross back over Molina. And the Balearic Islanders could have won it near the end when another debutant De los Santos headed just wide of the post following a corner. Mallorca stay down in the bottom three for now, but this was a promising performance, and with more reinforcements due in the next few days Héctor Cúper should be able to take them away from the danger zone.
