Numancia and Athletic Bilbao
shared the points on a cold Saturday night in Soria, a result which didn't help
the ambitions of either side. Despite the inclement weather some 2,000 plus
fans turned up from Bilbao, filling the small stadium for the third time this
season. Playing conditions were difficult though, with one third of the pitch
frozen over and touchlines painted red, and there were few scoring chances in a
quiet first half.
If anything the home side
had the better of the first half, Osorio and Pineda failing to convert one
chance close to goal and Luis Prieto clearing another effort from Juanlu off
the line with the keeper beaten. But with the first half already in the second
minute of injury time (although the referee had only signalled one), Del Horno
ran in from the edge of the area to head Tiko's corner past Juanma.
Máximo
Hernández brought on Lee Chun Soo at the break, but the visitors came
close to extending their lead with Gurpegui, Luis Prieto and Etxeberría
all trying their luck. However the locals equalised with a long shot from
Tevenet which took an awkward bounce off the icy surface to fly under
Aranzubia. Athletic thought they should have had a penalty after that when
Graff clearly handled in the area on the blind side of the referee, but Pineda
could have won it for the hosts if his shot near the end had been on target.
The draw brings to an end the Basque side's run of three wins in a row, and
leaves Numancia still down at the bottom of the table. |
