Espanyol moved back up to
the Champions League spots after a convincing 4-1 win over Osasuna. It was the
visitors who took the lead though when Webó beat his fellow countryman
Kameni from outside of the area, and for a few minutes the locals fans feared
that they were on for a repeat of last season's 0-1 scoreline. But this was a
different Espanyol, and three goals in seven minute turned the scoreline in the
Catalans' favour.
Maxi started off the
recovery, taking advantage of a bad headed back-pass by Corrales to run past
Elía and force the ball over the line. Fredson made it two with a
powerful header from De la Peña's corner, his celebration even more
spectacular than the goal. And De la Peña got the third himself from a
well placed free kick, sparking off talk of a possible call up for the "Little
Buddha" for Spain's next international match.
Osasuna though were battling
to get back to the European spots, and Kameni had to be at his best to keep out
a Morales header immediately after the restart. Elía saved twice from
Maxi at the other end, and Lopo headed another effort over the bar. But Kameni
was called upon again to stop efforts from Pablo García and substitute
Milosevic, who was returning to the side after an injury. Fredson rounded
things off though with a fourth goal from close up after Elía blocked
Tamudo's cross, only for the ball to bounce up into the air to the Brazilian
midfielder. Espanyol were back up to fourth, and Fredson entertained the crowd
with another jig. |
