Valencia moved back up to
fourth place after a 2-0 win over Mallorca in the last match of Sunday evening.
The match signalled Héctor Cúper's return to the Mestalla
stadium, and his side were closest to scoring early on, with Cañizares
in action saving a Luis García free kick. But they were caught out in
the end by dead ball kicks, Moretti opening the scoring with his first goal for
the club after getting above the defence to head home a corner on the half hour
mark.
Sissoko shot wide a few
minutes later, but Delibasic should have equalised at the other end when he got
past the defence only to miss the target. But the locals went two up in the
second half when Baraja finished off after Navarro headed back another corner,
and Corradi could have got a third a few minutes later. The visitors went
forward, Cañizares saving from Arango and Fernando Niño and Luis
García hitting the post from a late free kick, but it was another defeat
for the Islanders who find themselves once again at the bottom of the table.
