Sevilla moved back up to the third in the table after beating Espanyol 1-0 on Sunday evening. The Andalusians were by far the better team throughout, and although the first shot was from Ito which Esteban had to touch over the bar, the rest of the first half was an attacking display from the locals. Kameni made an excellent double save from Baptista and Jesuli in the fifth minute, Javi Navarro headed a corner against the post soon afterwards, and Ibarra cleared off the line from Sergio Ramos following another corner. Espanyol's excellent defence finally cracked though six minutes before the interval when Baptista ran on to a long ball from Aranda, and although Kameni came out his area to challenge, his kick was charged down by the Brazilian forward who ended up running the ball in to the net.

The visitors were missing Tamudo and Maxi and were making little impact on Estaban's goal, although they felt hard done by after the break when referee Losantos Omar turned down a possible penalty by Ramos on Amavisca. Half time substitute Carlitos should have extended the lead when he shot tamely wide when free in front of goal, and Baptista had the best chance to get a second when Losantos ruled that Pochettino had controlled the ball with his arm in the penalty area when controlling a clearance with no forward in sight. Kameni guessed right though and dived low to turn Baptista's spot kick away for a corner, and a few minutes later made another first class save from Pablo Alfaro's header. However his efforts were in vain, and his side dropped below their rivals to fourth place.
