Zaragoza drop out of the
European spots to ninth after losing 0-1 to Mallorca, the first points they
have dropped at the Romareda stadium after five straight home wins. The result
takes the Balearic side off the bottom of the table, and they are unbeaten in
the league since new manager Héctor Cúper took over three games
ago.
The home side came out full
of confidence, with Westerveld having to save a long shot from Ponzio and
Alvaro heading wide. But the visitors took the lead with virtually their first
attack, Milito misjudging a long ball allowing Jesús Perera to cross
into the box, where Luis García was waiting to beat the local keeper
(also Luis García) with a shot on the turn.
Zaragoza tried their best
after that, with Galletti and Savio in particular testing the Dutch keeper. But
without the injured David Villa they were unable to find a way past a well
ordered defence, more disciplined already as Cúper applied his
"catenacchio". The few visiting fans, which included the incognito ex Mallorca
striker Samuel Eto'o, went home happy. |
