Another disappointing night
for Valencia, who could only draw 0-0 with Zaragoza to make it ten games now
without a win. Ranieri put out an attacking side who had the better of the
first half, with Sissoko testing Luis García early on and Corradi having
a penalty appeal turned down after he was pushed over by Toledo. Angulo
(celebrating his call up by Spain) fired a shot over the bar on the stroke of
half time, but his side were once again unable to find the route to goal, and
the manager brought on Mista for Di Vaio at the break.
Things didn't improve after
the restart though, and Javi Moreno slid the ball against the post from close
range after Alvaro headed on a free kick. Galletti shot wide and Moreno had
another effort blocked by a defender, and for a while it looked as if Valencia
could even be heading for defeat. But they rallied in the end, and could have
won it had referee Rubinos Pérez not ruled out a late headed goal from
Baraja for a borderline offside. The point keeps them two points behind their
opponents who are now fifth in the table, but it was another night of
frustration for the side who have not won now since Juan Soler took over as
president. |
