Zaragoza came away from Atlético Madrid's Calderón stadium with a point which takes them to sixth spot, although with a bit more luck they could have had a second victory there in consecutive years. An excellent Savio gave Víctor Muñoz's side the lead in only the second minute when he ran on to Villa's pass to shoot past Leo Franco, and he was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty later in the first half when brought down by Perea. Fernando Torres also had a penalty claim in each half waved away though, and Nano came close to scoring twice before the break, the first a free kick just over the bar and the second a header with the goal at his mercy after Luis García slipped over.

César Ferrando was not happy with his side, and brought on Colsa at the break for Simeone. But Zaragoza were unfortunate not to extend their lead when substitute Drulic headed against the post and then hit the side netting a few minutes later. It was the home side who got the goal though, Salva finishing off after Luis García could only palm away a header by young substitute Braulio, who had only come on to the park two minutes earlier. And Fernando Torres could have won it in the dying minutes when he ran through the defence but could only chip the ball into the hands of the keeper. But a point was the best they deserved, and they remain two points behind their opponents in eight place.
