Zaragoza's good start to the
season continues, and they move back up to seventh place, level on points with
the three teams above them, after beating struggling Real Sociedad 2-1.
Víctor Muñoz's side were on top from the beginning, with Villa
almost catching Riesgo off his line with a long shot which bounced back off the
crossbar. Garrido turned an Alvaro header away for a corner, and Javi Moreno
just failed to get on the end of Savio's cross before the locals took the lead,
Villa converting a penalty after referee Fernández Borbolán ruled
that López Rekarte's challenge on Savio was illegal.
The visitors reacted quickly
though, and six minutes later they were level when Fernández awarded
another penalty after Luis García crashed into Kovacevic, Karpin
slotting home the kick. García did well to tip a dangerous free kick
from Rossato over the bar before the break, and Kovacevic headed against the
foot of the post after the restart. But a few minutes later Zapater found Savio
with a pinpoint pass, and the ex Real Madrid midfielder just got to the ball
first to chip it past the advancing keeper.
Real should probably have
saved a point when Kovacevic scored but was incorrectly ruled offside late on,
but it was not to be, and the Basques find themselves once again hovering just
above the relegation zone, only out of the bottom three thanks to a slightly
better goal average than their immediate rivals. |
