With most of the teams in the upper half of the table failing to win, Sevilla took advantage to move up to third spot with a 0-0 draw at Racing Santander. It was a hard fought match, with many fouls and hard tackles, and local manager Lucas Alcaraz was forced to change his striker Arizmendi as early as the eighth minute after he limped off following a hard tackle by veteran defender Pablo Alfaro.

Neither side managed a clean shot on target throughout the first half, but both keepers were in action after the restart, Esteban closing down Javi Guerrero and Aouate saving from a shot from Javi Navarro and a glancing header from half time substitute Antoñito. The hard tackles continued though, and Alfaro was eventually sent off near the end for kicking back at Arizmendi's replacement Aganzo, the 26th red card of his career and the 17th in the first division.

But Sevilla had the point they were looking for and the home fans booed off their side, who drop into the bottom three having not won at home now since the 22nd February.
