Deportivo La Coruña had to make do with a 1-1 draw against Betis, and they have still to win at home this season in the league. With Diego Tristán and Mauro Silva still injured and a smaller squad to choose from this year, Irureta couldn't make his usual round of changes, although he did leave César on the bench after his poor performance against Valencia.

Both sides had chances in the first half, with Joaquín curling a free kick just over the bar early on for the visitors, and Prats turning a shot from Sergio for a corner at the other end. Pandiani seemed to have missed a sitter but the move was eventually ruled offside, Juanito headed another Joaquín free kick over the bar, and both sides had penalty appeals turned down.

The attacking play continued after the break, with Pandiani failin to turn in Víctor's cross and Molina beating away a long shot from Oliveira. But Oliveira did find the net a few minutes later, picking up a through ball from Fernando to slide a shot under the advancing keeper for his first goal since joining the club.

Having already lost their first two home games, the fans started to show their disapproval. But Víctor quietened the crowd when he fired in an equaliser after Prats was unable to do more than block Valerón's first time volley. Neither side looked like breaking the deadlock after that, but for two sides who are not on their best form right now, a point apiece was at least something to cling on to.
