Villarreal are still looking
for their first league victory of the season after they were held to a 0-0 draw
by Sevilla. It was a tense match with tempers flaring throughout, although the
only real injuries came in the last minute when Pablo Ruiz and David clashed
heads, the young central defender ending the match with his head wrapped in
blood stained bandages and the left back being stretchered off semi-conscious.
Chances were few and far
between though, especially in the first half when only Riquelme tried his luck
from long distance a couple of times. The Andalucians were missing their
Brazilian starts Baptista and Renato, but could still have scored after the
break when Darío Silva just failed to lob Reina and then Jordi fired a
shot just wide.
Sonny Anderson came close to
giving his side the lead when he made space but only managed to shoot straight
at Esteban, and Forlán got free late on but couldn't beat the keeper
with a low shot. But a game in general to forget, and the only good thing to
come out of it was a point for both teams. |
