Chested ball over line from Owen's chipped cross.
Real Madrid travelled to
Mallorca for their opening match without their new defensive signings Samuel
and Woodgate, both of whom were injured, and as expected Michael Owen started
the game on the bench. However an injury to Raúl midway through the
first half enabled the England striker to make his debut, and he produced the
bet effort of the first half, a header from Figo's cross which went just past
the post. Owen it was though who set up the only goal of the game for Ronaldo
early in the second half, and he could have scored himself had he not shot wide
later on, thanks in part to an uneven pitch. Mallorca themselves were clearly
missing Samuel Eto'o up front, although they bucked up their ideas with the
introduction of Jorge López and Delibasic. |
