Barcelona proved that they are no longer dependent on Ronaldinho to win matches, running out 0-2 victors over Racing Santander despite the absence of their Brazilian star through injury. Local keeper Aouate kept out the visiting forwards in the first half, but Giuly finally beat him after the break after connecting with a cross from Belletti, who had switched to the left hand side after the break thanks to an injury to Van Bronckhorst. Eto'o added a second from the penalty spot a few minutes later after the referee ruled that Pablo Casar had tripped Xavi, a much protested decision as the defender appeared not to have touched the Barça midfielder. The Catalans could well have increased their lead later on had their strikers not wasted two or three more chances.
