Newly promoted Levante came away from Anoeta with a valuable point, a good start for their first season in the top flight for almost 40 years. Bernd Schuster's side could have gone in front early on when Ettien wasted an easy chance, but Nihat hit the post at the other end and Mora had to make a couple of good saves from Nihat and Brechet to keep the scores level. A long free kick from Ian Harte put the visitors ahead on the stroke of half time, but Nihat made it all square just two minutes after the restart and that was how it stayed for the rest of the match.
