Lleida are the first
side to win promotion to the second division A after beating Celta B 3-0
on the penultimate weekend of the play-offs. The Catalans had to wait until
late in the first half before Lezaun finally beat José Juan with a shot
into the top corner of the net, and although Taradellas hit the post after the
break, it was not until twenty minutes from the end that Santos got on the end
of Sergio's free kick to calm the nerves of the 9,000 or so watching fans.
Substitute Nakor rounded things off with a chip over the keeper to take his
side back up after three seasons in the second division B.
Cultural Leonesa were
the only other side in contention in group A, but their 6-1 drubbing of
Pajara Playas was to no avail as they can now only catch Lleida on
points, and have an inferior head-to-head goal average with Miguel Rubio's
team. Ivo gave them an early lead, and although Viyuela equalised soon
afterwards, strikes from Adriano, José Vega and Miguel Alfonso left them
4-1 up at half time. Paulino and Raúl Ibáñez added two
more after the restart, but by then Lleida were already celebrating their
promotion.
Group B is wide open, and
any one of three sides could still go up with one game to go. Leaders
Pontevedra had the chance to join Lleida, and when Javi Rodríguez
converted a hotly disputed penalty at Lorca with a quarter of an hour on
the clock, they seemed to be on their way. But Alejandro equalised ten minutes
later, and Huegun got a second on the stroke of half time with a low shot to
give his side a 2-1 victory which takes them to within a point of the
Galicians.
Badajoz moved up
level with Lorca after a 3-0 win over Mirandés, and if Pontevedra
slip up next weekend they could just pip them at the post. The Extremadura
based side appeared to be out of it after picking up just one point from their
first three games, but goals from Cheli and Josemi following defensive mistakes
in the first twenty minutes and a third from Sergio Cruz from a corner after
the break gave them their second win in a row. The visitors missed a late
penalty themselves, and are now out of the race.
Racing Ferrol and Sevilla B
are fighting it out in group C, and all will depend on their last matches away
from home. Ferrol beat Atlético B 2-0 to stay a point
clear at the top of the table, David Franch scoring the first shortly before
half time when he turned a cross from the right wing past Lledó, and
Albarrán heading the ball into his own net for the second trying to
clear an inswinging corner. The visitors had to play three quarters of the game
with ten men after under 21 international Toché was shown the red card.
Sevilla B kept their
hopes of promotion alive with a 3-1 win over Castellón, who are
now out of the picture as a result. Two goals from Moreno in the first twenty
minutes put the game out of reach of the East coast side, and when Juvenal was
sent off for the visitors shortly before the break for a second bookable
offence it seemed to be all over. Serrano pulled one back in the second half
though, and there were a few tense moments before substitute Guille got a late
third to wrap up the match.
Draws all round in group D
this weekend, leaving Gimnastic Tarragona in the driving seat coming
into the last day. The Catalans drew 2-2 at Ourense to stay a point
clear of them and Real Madrid B, and a victory at home against the Galicians
next weekend would see them up. Currás headed the home side into the
lead from a long free kick on the stroke of half time, but Diego Torres made it
all square soon after the restart. Nacho García restored the lead from
the penalty spot after Alfonso fouled Durán, and Conget had a third goal
disallowed for a non-existent offside. But Nàstic came back with a
headed goal by Alfonso to save a valuable point.
Real Madrid B failed
to take advantage of Nàstic's slip, being held to a 2-2 draw at home by
Lanzarote. The youngsters were full of confidence having scored nine
goals in their last two games, but the Canary Islanders took the lead when
Alejandro headed home a corner early on. Trashorras equalised later in the
first half with a header from Juanfran's cross and Riki and Toni hit the
woodwork either side of half time, but Raúl Salas put the visitors back
in front a quarter of an hour from the end before Trashorras got his second of
the night with a quickly taken free kick. (20.06.04) |
