Two of the promotion
play-off games were brought forward to Saturday, and both ended in draws.
Without doubt the most exciting game was at Vigo, where Cultural Leonesa
came back with two late Paulino penalties to draw 4-4 with Celta B in
their group A fixture. Nacho Franco and Jonathan put the Galicians two up in
the first quarter of the match, but Paulino pulled one back before Jacobo
Campos restored the two goal cushion on the stroke of half time. Adriano scored
again for the visitors after the restart, but Nacho Franco appeared to have
given his side victory until Paulino completed a controversial hat-trick, the
last penalty coming in the fourth minute of injury time as Edgar was sent off
for the hosts.
Two other reserve sides
Sevilla B and Atlético B once again cancelled each other
out in a 0-0 draw in their group C fixture, the result coming just a week after
they drew 1-1 in Madrid. The locals got the ball in the net twice in the first
half, but Jonathan's strike was disallowed for a previous foul and Moreno's for
offside. The visitors were left with ten men when Romero was given a second
booking twenty minutes from the end, and also had Domingo sent off in injury
time, but they held on to make it three draws in a row at the halfway stage.

Some surprises in the
promotion play-offs this weekend, with none of the four group leaders able to
win. Lleida were held to a scoreless draw at home by Playas
Jandía in their group A match, and although they still head up the table
with seven points, they missed out on an opportunity to open up a big gap over
their rivals. The Catalans did most of the attacking, with Piti hitting the
post in the first half, but the Fuerteventura based side could also have won it
on two or three dangerous breakaways. Lleida's visit to Cultural Leonesa next
weekend could decide the group.
A 0-0 draw as well between
group B leaders Pontevedra and Badajoz. A crowd of around 10,000
turned up to urge the Galicians on, but they were held by their opponents who
were looking for their first point in the playoffs. Busto did head against the
bar for the locals before the break and Javi Rodríguez wasted a couple
of chances in the second half, but in the end both sides had to settle for a
point which probably leaves the Extremadurans out of the running for a return
to the "división de plata" at the first attempt after they were
relegated last year.
Scandalous scenes at the
other group B match, where Lorca missed out on the chance to go top of
the group after losing 1-2 to Mirandés. Referee Benjumea Alvarez
sent off two players from each side, ruled out two goals for the locals,
including one right at the end, and awarded a controversial penalty in favour
of the visitors in injury time which Iván Agustín converted for
the winner. Quique Mateo had put the hosts ahead in the first half, but Lasarte
equalised with a free kick on the stroke of half time.
Group C leaders Racing
Ferrol dropped their first points of the play-offs when they were beaten
1-0 by Castellón, who move up to within two points of their
opponents as a result. The East coast side were on top right from the start,
Rodri having a goal disallowed early on, and they took the lead ten minutes
before the break when Juvenal beat Bello Amigo with a well struck free kick.
The Galicians did hit the post later in the game, but otherwise they were well
beaten on the day.
Ourense also lost
their 100% record when they were beaten 2-1 by group D rivals Lanzarote.
The Galicians had trouble at first adapting to the artificial pitch, but even
so they took the lead on the half hour mark when the referee ruled that Nacho
Castro's header had crossed the line after bouncing down off the bar. Visiting
keeper Dani Roiz kept out the local forwards until five minutes from the end,
when Sergio equalised following a corner. And with a minute to go Alejandro
sent the home fans wild with the winning goal.
Real Madrid B picked
up their first points with an emphatic 4-0 win over Nàstic,
leaving group D wide open at the halfway stage. José Antonio Camacho was
once again in the crowd to see team captain Riki open the scoring with a shot
on the turn midway through the first half. Under 19 international Soldado made
it two on the stroke of half time, and set up Juanfran early in the second half
for him to poke a third past Morales before completing the rout himself with a
vicious shot which caught the keeper by surprise. (06.06.04) |
