One match in the promotion
play-offs on Saturday, Ourense making it two wins out of two to top
group D after beating Lanzarote 2-1. The Galicians dominated the first
half, and took the lead on the stroke of half time when Conget beat substitute
keeper Marino. Nacho could have increased the lead after the break a couple of
times before he finally lobbed the keeper for the second goal, but the Canary
Islanders pulled one back through Vladimir a quarter of an hour from the end to
set up a nail-biting finish. (29.05.04)
Sides from regional groups I
and III have taken an early lead in the four mini-leagues which will decide who
is promoted to the second division "A" this year. Lleida, Racing Ferrol and
Ourense have all won their two opening games, with Pontevedra, Lorca and
Gimnastic Tarragona closely behind with a win and a draw.
Lleida head up group
A after their second one-goal victory in a row, this time 0-1 over Canary
Island side Playas Jandía. Both teams hit the bar, but in the end
it was Lezaun who once again got the only goal just before the break, beating
Gaitán after an earlier shot came back off the woodwork. The Catalans
had to play the last quarter of an hour with ten men after Borrell was sent
off.
Cultural Leonesa kept
in touch with the leaders after a 3-0 win over Celta B, who cannot now
be promoted after their A side went down from the first division. The Galicians
put up a good fight at first, Jonathan hitting the post before Rubén
Suárez beat José Juan with a quarter of an hour on the clock.
Paulino added two more goals either side of half time though for a comfortable
victory for the León based club.
Pontevedra beat
Badajoz 0-2 to top group B with four points, just ahead of Lorca on goal
difference. The Galicians took the lead on the half hour mark when Xavi Moro
deflected Padín's free kick past his own keeper, and Javi
Rodríguez added a second after the break for a vital win against the
Extremadurans, who have yet to pick up a point.
A 0-0 draw between
Mirandés and Lorca, two sides who are looking for their
second promotion in a row after coming up from the regional third division last
season. A capacity 6,000 crowd turned up in Miranda de Ebro (Burgos) to urge
their side on, but although they had the better chances, in particular when
David Gallo missed an open goal, they had to settle for their second draw in a
row.
Racing Ferrol are
looking good candidates for a return to the "división de plata" at the
first attempt after beating Castellón 3-1 in their group C match.
Jaio headed the Galicians into the lead in the tenth minute soon after Soria
hit the bar, but Eloy equalised before the break. Bermejo restored the lead
from the penalty spot after the restart though when keeper Oliva fouled
Juanito, and after Rodri was sent off for the visitors, Sueiro wrapped things
up with a third goal.
All square in the other
group C game between the two reserve sides, with Atlético Madrid
B and Sevilla B cancelling each other out in a 1-1 draw. Molero put
the Andalucians ahead in the fifth minute after a dreadful mistake by keeper
Lledó, but Molinero saved a point on the stroke of half time following a
short free kick, his shot taking a deflection off the defensive wall to
wrong-foot keeper Javi Muñoz.
Gimnastic Tarragona
stayed just two points behind group D leaders Ourense after beating Real
Madrid B 1-0 on Sunday, Diego Torres giving the Catalans the victory when
he headed Codina's cross past Diego López in the fifth minute. Watched
by new manager Camacho, the visitors could have equalised though in the last
minute when Felip brought down Riki in the area, but the keeper made up for his
mistake by saving Soldado's penalty kick. Madrid ended the game with nine men
after Jordi and Olalla were both sent off in the last ten minutes. (30.05.04)
