Saturday was a day of drawn
games in the second division A, with five of the six matches ending all square.
The only side to win was Terrassa, .who beat Elche 2-3 to move
off the bottom of the table. New manager Enrique Martín was in charge
for the first time, and he saw Molist put his side ahead on the quarter hour
mark. Moisés equalised a few minutes later, following up after Maestro
saved Nino's header, but Rodri put the Catalans back in front from the penalty
spot after Tasevski fouled Besora. And although Zárate made it all
square again before the break from a well struck free kick, the manager's
namesake Quique Martín lobbed keeper Dani Mallo on the hour mark to give
Terrassa a much needed three points. Elche's Djorovic was sent off in the last
minute as nerves frayed.
No less than three games
ended 0-0, including the clash between high flying Getafe and
Alavés. The visitors put up a defensive wall looking for a goal
on the breakaway, and on the rare occasions that the home side forwards got
through, Gaspercic was there to save. The Vitoria based side had a chance to
steal the three points when they were awarded a penalty after Bernaus handled
in the area ten minutes from the end, but Aragoneses made a spectacular stop
from Kiko's spot kick.
Daniel Grimback's ambitious
project at Leganés continues to stumble along, and even with
eleven Argentine nationals in the starting line up they were unable to do
better than draw 0-0 with Poli Ejido, their third such result at home in
succession. The bad state of the pitch didn't help, but it was a boring match
with the visitors only testing keeper Leyenda once early on and the locals
going close through Federico Domínguez and claiming a penalty for a foul
on Calandria near the end. Ejido's ex Mallorca and Newcastle defender Marcelino
was sent off for a second booking in the last minute.
Leganés draw was
their fifth in a row this season, as was that of Xerez at
Numancia. Despite the lack of goals there were a few scoring chances,
with Chota closest to getting a goal for the locals and Mena and Mendoza
testing Luis García at the opposite end.
A last minute strike by
Esteban saved a point for Almería, who kept up their unbeaten
record with a 2-2 draw against Recreativo. The home side took the lead
midway through the first half when Juanlu beat Luque with a shot from outside
of the area. But goals either side of half time from the visitors turned the
score around, Toedtli heading an equaliser before the break and Camacho putting
his side ahead soon afterwards. Toedtli had a double chance to add to the lead
later on, but first Cano and then a defender cleared off the line. And then a
defensive mistake let through Esteban to make it all square in the end.
Eibar lost out on the
chance to move to the top of the table after they were held to a 1-1 draw by
Las Palmas. Kicking off at the same time as the big Basque derby, a smaller
than usual crowd saw Llorente test Quintana early on. Riesgo had to be at his
best later in the half to save from Bogliacino and Rubén Castro before
the break, but the locals took the lead after the restart when Llorente
connected with a pass from Brit. The visitors came back, and Riesgo tipped a
free kick from Bogliacino against the crossbar. And soon afterwards
Rubén Castro levelled the scores with his fifth of the season.
Cádiz extended
their lead at the top of the table to three points after an injury time 1-0 win
on Sunday lunchtime over Rayo Vallecano. After a boring first half, the
home side went closest to scoring with two or three chances after the break.
Bolo should have won it though for Rayo when he headed wide in injury time, but
play went straight up the other end and Jonathan Sesma beat Segura for the
winning goal. The nerves were too much though for Cádiz manager
José González, who was sent off five minutes before the end after
being booked twice for protesting.
Málaga B and
Algeciras played out the fourth 0-0 draw of the weekend at midday on
Sunday, a result which leaves them both down in the bottom two spots in the
table. Keepers Lara and Iñaqui were rarely troubled. Last year this
fixture took place in the Southern regional group of the second division B, and
both may be back there again next season.
On to the evening's games,
and all three ended in draws making it a record nine this weekend. High flying
Ciudad de Murcia and second placed Levante were expected to put
up an entertaining display, but they too were affected by the general malaise
and ended up producing yet another 0-0 result. Alexis hit the post for the
visitors and Mora saved from an Aguilar free kick at the other end, but
otherwise there was little to entertain the fans. Murcia's new signing
Jokanovic was sent off at the end after getting himself booked twice in a
minute.
Fourth placed
Tenerife missed out on a chance to move into the promotion spots after
they were held to a 1-1 draw by Salamanca. The visitors had the best of
the first half, with Tuni hitting the post, and although Keko also hit the
woodwork at the other end, Escoda put Felipe Miñambres' side ahead just
after the interval. Jesús Vázquez saved a point though for the
Canary Islanders with a free kick ten minutes from the end, and only a good
save from Stelea prevented Martín Posse for winning it for them in the
last minute.
A 1-1 draw as well in the
match between Sporting Gijon and Córdoba, leaving both
occupying the two positions just above the drop zone. Both goals came in the
first half, the first for the visitors from ex Valencia and Sevilla forward
Nico Olivera just a few seconds after Bilic had struck the bar with a free kick
at the other end. But five minutes later Ismael intercepted a bad back pass by
the unfortunate Juanmi (who was sent off midway through the second half) to
make it all square, and that's how it stayed to the end of the match.
