Valencia are the new league champions! Rafa Benítez's side took advantage of the slips by Real Madrid and Barcelona to finish things off at the first opportunity, their 0-2 victory in Sevilla enough to take them seven points clear at the top of the table with two games to go.

The manager was not taking any chances, and despite his side having played a gruelling UEFA cup semi-final just three days earlier, he put a strong line up. And within eleven minutes they had taken the lead, Vicente picking up a back-heel pass from Xisco and charging half the length of the pitch before shooting low past Esteban.

Sevilla were taking the game seriously though, needing points to keep up their push for a European spot, and Casquero shot just wide soon after the goal. They were let off the hook though shortly afterwards when Jorge López got the ball in the net only to see it incorrectly ruled out for offside, but referee Puentes Leira also ruled out a strike by Carlitos close to half time for the same reason.

Caparrós brought on Darío Silva at the break to strengthen his attack, and the Uruguayan forward soon made his presence felt with a header over the bar. Sergio Ramos shot just wide and Antoñito put another effort over the top, and Cañizares had to be at his best to save from Darío Silva a few minutes later.

But with the game coming to an end Baraja wrapped things up to round of what has been a wonderful week for the Chés, and they can now relax and concentrate on the upcoming UEFA cup final. Sevilla lose ground on their rivals for the two UEFA cup spots, but they still have two more bites at the cherry before the season ends.
