Deportivo La Coruña
were held to a 1-1 draw by Valladolid, a result which virtually takes them out
of the title race. With a Champions' League semi-final coming up on Wednesday,
Irureta put out a side which included seven changes from last week's starting
line up, including Munúa who was making his league debut in goal. The
Uruguayan keeper had a good game, but could do nothing when Oscar
González picked up a Fernando Sales pass to score on the stroke of half
time.
Irureta made more changes at
the break, bringing on Djalminha and Pandiani for Luque and for Tristán,
who appeared to have picked up a knock in a clash with Julio César.
Djalminha had been having some legal problems with the club over a demand from
the tax authorities, but he put that behind him and won a penalty only ten
minutes after coming on, scoring himself from the spot to level the scores.
After that the game cooled
down, although if any side could have won it would have been the visitors,
Oscar González going close on a couple of occasions and Oscar
Sánchez shooting over when free in front of goal. In the end a point
apiece which at least keeps Depor safely in the top four places and helps
Valladolid move further away from the relegation zone. |
