Celta kept alive their hopes
of survival with a 0-2 win over Albacete, dragging their opponents back down
into the relegation struggle. The home side had been edging their way to
safety, and after their draw against Espanyol last week they were hoping to
secure their place in the top flight with a victory against a side who had not
won in eight games prior to this one. But Juanfran put the Galicians in front
midway through the first half, and Milosevic could have made it two before the
break when Almunia just managed to turn his effort away for a corner.
César Ferrando had
already had to replace the injured Parri, and he made his second change at half
time, bringing on Aranda for Fabiano. But only a minute after the restart his
side were two down, Gustavo López finishing off a good team move with a
tap-in on the far post from Velasco's cross. Cavallero had to be at his best
after that to make sure the visitors stayed ahead, but the frustration got too
much for Ferrando who was eventually sent off by referee Pérez Lasa
after picking up two bookings for protesting.
Sylvinho followed him down
the tunnel after he was shown a straight red for a hard tackle in the last
minute, only a short time after coming on as substitute, but there was no time
for Albacete to react. They ended the weekend only three points off the drop
zone and four above their opponents, and only five points now separate seven
sides. Don't write Celta off just yet. |
