Sevilla's five match
unbeaten run came to an end after they lost 2-0 to Valladolid. The Andalucians
had started well, with Baptista putting Bizzarri to the test twice in the
opening minutes and Antoñito going close with an overhead kick, although
the locals replied with efforts from Sousa and Fernando Sales.
Before half time
Valladolid's manager Fernando Vázquez got himself a second red card of
the season for protesting too strongly to the referee, and he had to go up to
the stands to see Jonathan give his side the lead soon after the restart when
he came from behind to head a Fernando Sales corner past Esteban. Bizzarri made
a key save from half time substitute Carlos ten minutes later, and almost
immediately the locals won a penalty at the other end when Daniel Alves brought
down Fernando Sales, Jesús converting the kick.
Caparrós threw on all
his fire power but they were unable to make much inroad in a well disciplined
defence, and they had to play the last ten minutes with a man short after
Baptista limped off injured with all three substitutions made. Valladolid's
second win in a row takes them eight points away from the danger zone and
within three points of their rivals, who are currently in ninth spot.
