Albacete moved out of the
bottom three to the detriment of Celta after beating Real Sociedad 0-1. Reynald
Denoueix made several changes after his side's Champions' League defeat
midweek, bringing back transfer-listed Javier De Pedro, replacing the injured
Westerveld with Alberto and leaving Kovacevic on the bench, and it was De Pedro
who carved out the early chances for Nihat and De Paula in attack. The best
chance of the first half fell to Karpin after a well worked team move, but
visiting keeper Almunia was up to the challenge and made a good save.
Up to that point Albacete
had hardly approached Alberto's goal, but only three minutes in to the second
half they took the lead, David Sánchez and Munteanu setting up Redondo
for a shot at goal. And although Alberto pushed out his first shot, the ball
fell kindly for the midfielder to fire the rebound back into the net. Redondo
could even have increased the lead later on, but Real pushed forward after
that, and only a couple of great saves from Almunia in the final minutes kept
out De Paula and substitute Lee Chun Soo. Albacete's second victory in a row
took them two points clear of the drop zone, and dragged the Basques back into
the struggle to avoid relegation. |
