Celta's brief revival under
Radomir Antic was cut short when they were beaten 0-2 by Málaga. With
his mind on the upcoming Champions' League game with Arsenal, the manager
rested Mostovoi and brought back Jesuli and Vagner into the side. But his plans
were altered early on, when Jesuli limped off with an injury and had to be
replaced by Edu. The turning point of the game though came a few minutes later
when Salva sent Edgar away on a charge into the penalty area. The Portuguese
forward was brought down by Sergio, who was shown the red card by referee
Turienzo Alvarez, and Salva stepped up to convert the resulting penalty kick.
After that the visitors took
control, and only a couple of efforts by Sylvinho either side of half time and
another strike by Edu troubled Arnau and his defence. The visitors were always
dangerous on the counter-attack, and Edgar and Salva both failed to take full
advantage of chances. But in the last minute Edgar found substitute Diego
Alonso on the right of the area, and the Uruguayan striker wrapped things up
with a lob which caught Cavallero off his line. |
