Betis threw away another
good opportunity to get a win under their belts when they were held to a 1-1
draw by Murcia, and they ended the weekend only two points above the relegation
spots. The Andalucians looked to be on their way when Roteta was sent off in
only the second minute of the game for a foul on Dani, and Joaquín
crashed the resulting free kick against the bar. But Peiró pulled back
Cuadrado into the back four, and the defence held firm until the break.
Numbers were evened up in
the second minute of the second half when Luis Fernández was given his
marching orders for a second bookable offence, but what Betis were unable to do
with eleven men they achieved with ten, Joaquín producing a superb run
down the right wing to cross in for Ismael to open the scoring. Juanmi saved
well from Joaquín as the hosts came looking for the win, but Lembo had
to clear off the line from Luis García with Contreras beaten, and the
on-loan Real Madrid youngster went close again when he shot wide with only the
keeper to beat.
Time was running out though
for the visitors when Juanma made one last desperate burst into the area, and
his prayers when answered when Rivas barged into him. Referee Téllez
Sánchez had no doubt pointing at the spot, and Luis García struck
home the equaliser. Betis had failed to win for the sixth game in a row, and
manager Víctor Fernández is under pressure to get a couple of
results soon or he will be on his way. Murcia stay down in nieteenth place, but
at least they saved face. |
