Athletic Bilbao take over
sixth spot after they drew 2-2 at Zaragoza on Thursday evening. Gurpegui
returned to Valverde's line up after a judge put his drugs ban on hold pending
a future court case, and the manager also included Yeste in his line up after
he and Del Horno had been left out of the squad for a couple of games for
disciplinary reasons, the two youngsters having been seen night-clubbing in the
early hours before a game. Yeste celebrated his return scoring the first goal
with just under a quarter of an hour on the clock after a short free kick,
keeper Lainez getting a hand to the ball but unable to stop it entering the
net.
Athletic went further ahead
ten minutes later when Tiko ran through the defence before sticking the ball
wide of the keeper, and with Etxeberría also testing Lainez, the Basques
appeared to be on a roll. But only a couple of minutes later David Villa pulled
one back with a shot on the turn, and before half time Galletti had put another
chance over the bar from only five yards out.
Zaragoza levelled the scores
immediately after the restart though, Villa once again showing clinical
finishing from Galletti's cross. And the under 21 international could have
completed his hat-trick later in the half when Aranzubia did well to get across
and block his shot in time. However Athletic shut up shop after that, and they
could have even won it late on had Lainez not saved from Jonan García.
