Last week's fourth placed
side Athletic Bilbao fell 1-2 at home to Racing Santander, ending their run of
five victories in a row in the San Mamés stadium. Spanish under 20
international Jonan García put the Basque side in front in the seventh
minute with a shot from the edge of the area, and Ezquerro thought he should
have had a penalty soon afterwards when brought down in the area. However
referee Carmona Méndez turned down his sides' appeals, and a few minutes
later disallowed a strike at the other end by Diego Mateo for a borderline
offside.
The Cantabrians did draw
level though before the break, Bodipo running on to a long ball and outpacing
Luis Prieto to strike a shot past Aranzubia. Abd twenty minutes into the second
half the Guinean striker had a hand in the winning goal, his effort being
cleared by the Basque keeper only as far as Regueiro, who fired it back into
the empty net. Athletic manager Ernesto Valverde threw on all his attacking
players, but missing the suspended Etxeberría they were unable to beat
an excellent Ricardo. This was Racing's fourth away win of the season, and they
move level with their opponents on points. |
