Barcelona missed out on a
chance to move back into the top four when they were held in the Nou Camp to a
disappointing 0-0 draw by Valladolid. In the absence of Ronaldinho, Kluivert
and Saviola played together up front, but they were lacking that vital spark to
bear a confident Bizzarri. Kluivert had the best chance of the first half,
working his way through the defence but then failing to find the target when it
mattered, and Saviola shot just wide before the break and then missed another
occasion after the break when Quaresma set him up.
The closest Barça
came to scoring though was when Van Bronckhorst crashed a shot against the post
from outside of the area, but they were frustrated by the well ordered defence,
even when Rijkaard went for broke and threw on Luis Enrique and then Overmars
later on. Valladolid had hardly troubled Víctor Valdés all match,
just a couple of efforts from Fernando Sales and Makukula before the break, but
Makukula almost won it for the visitors in the dying moments when he headed
wide of the goal with only the keeper to beat. |
