A last minute goal from
Domoraud gave bottom club Espanyol a 1-0 victory over Sevilla, their first win
at home this season. Luis Fernández was in charge for the first time at
the Luis Companys stadium in Montjuic, and he made five changes to his side,
with Fredson and youngster Héctor recalled and Maxi acting as makeshift
centre forward. Caparrós was also forced to make changes to his starting
line up, with both full backs out and Darío Silva suspended, and
youngsters Marañón and Navas came in to the squad, the former
starting the match and the latter making his debut late in the second half.
Scoring chances were few and
far between, but the best fell to the Andalucians. Javi Navarro directed a
header against the bar midway through the first half with Toni nowhere to be
seen, and the keeper making a spectacular save from a Casquero free kick just
beofre the break. Maxi and Fredson both tested Esteban after the break, but
things seemed to be going against them when Lopo was given a second booking by
an over-zealous referee, leaving his side with ten men. But Fernández
turned to his new signing Iván De la Peña to try his luck, and in
the last minute he picked out Domoraud with a long free kick to head the winner
past the keeper. |
