Darío Silva's return to Málaga was not quite what he expected, and his Sevilla side fell to a 2-0 defeat against his old club. The controversial Uruguayan striker had been let off a one match ban after being sent off the week before, and lined up with the rest of his colleagues for this match. His pre-match comments had upset the local team though, and the fans were delighted when he gave away a free kick in the first minute and Duda took advantage to catch Notario off guard, shooting straight into the net from wide out on the left wing.

Silva's only contribution after that was to get himself booked, and Málaga went further ahead midway through the first half when Duda was brought down by Gallardo as he entered the penalty area, Salva converting the resulting spot kick. And their could have been a third goal for the home side, referee Undiano Mallenco waving away claims that the ball had crossed the line in a goalmouth scramble before Notario finally caught it.

Caparrós decided to make changes at half time, and brought on Antoñito for Gallardo. For a few minutes the visitors got back in the game, with Casquero shooting over the bar and Calatayud having to save from the new man. But the challenge fizzled out, and Miguel Angel and Gerardo could have given the locals a bigger win later on. But they had already done enough, and they move a point above their opponents to twelfth place.
