cross. 1-2. 49. Fernando Torres (penalty). After Tais brought down
Nikolaidis in area.
Two more goals from Fernando
Torres gave Atlético Madrid a 1-2 victory at Betis, taking them up to
sixth in the table. The young striker has been one of the driving forces in his
side's recent success, and he has now scored seven times in the last four
games, all of which have ended in a win for the "Colchoneros".
It was the home side who
took the lead first though, once again thanks to their dead ball specialist
Marcos Assunçao. The Brazilian midfielder struck a trademark free kick
past a static Juanma, who had only come in to the side at the last minute after
Burgos aggravated an old injury foolling around with Simeone in the pre-match
warm up.
After that Betis were on
top, but six minutes before the break Torres was there to score one of the most
spectacular goals of the season, leaping in the air to meet Jorge's floated
cross and volley the ball wide of Contreras into the far top corner of the net.
And four minutes in to the second half he added a second from the penalty spot
after Tais chopped down Nikolaidis as he cut into the area from the left wing.
The locals threw everything
forward after that, with Arzu heading Assunçao's corner against the bar
and Denilson also hitting the woodwork a few minutes later. Tote also had a
chance later on, but instead of passing to a colleague who was better placed,
he tried unsuccessfully to dribble round the keeper. The game was over, and a
second defeat in a row left Betis down in the bottom half of the table at the
end of the day. . |
