A thrilling match at the
Madrigal stadium, where Villarreal came from behind three times to draw 3-3
with Sevilla. The visitors took the lead as early as the third minute when the
defensive wall parted like the Dead Sea to allow Casquero's free kick through
and in to the net. But six minutes later Sonny Anderson, celebrating a rare
start, equalised after Guayre chested Riquelme's long pass into his path.
Midway through the first half the visitors were back in front though,
Darío Silva winning a penalty under a challenge from Ballesteros which
Reyes converted.
The home side came out
again, with Riquelme shooting just wide, and Javi Navarro was lucky to stay on
the park after referee Carmina Méndez failed to see an elbow on Guayre.
The Andalucians held on though until twenty minutes from the end, when Sonny
Anderson picked up a pass from the right and cut past a defender to score. But
once again the visitors took the lead, substitute Carlitos (formerly known as
Carlos) finishing off after Notario twice kept out shots from Darío
Silva.
With a couple of minutes to
go to the end, Daniel Alves broke away down the right and cut past Reina, but
with the goal at his mercy he shot into the side netting. Play went up the
other end, and much to the delight of his supporters, Arruabarrena scrambled
home a third equaliser. There was still time for more, and the white
handkerchiefs appeared in the crowd after Belletti fell under a challenge in
the area only to be shown a yellow card for diving. In the end a point apiece,
but any other result would have been unfair. |
