Espanyol's season is going from bad to worse, and they lost 0-4 for the second week in a row, this time at home to Celta. Javier Clemente changed over half his team but it made no difference, although luck, and a difficult referee, were against them this time. Daudén Ibáñez awarded a rigorous penalty on the quarter hour mark after the ball hit Lopo's arm in a challenge with Mostovoi, which Luccin converted, and then sent off Wome after he flattened Juanfran in an off the ball incident. He refused however to see anything wrong when the ball appeared to hit Cáceres on the arm in the Celta penalty area a few minutes later.

The Perequitos started the second half well, with Tamudo firing a shot just over the bar in the opening minutes. Apart from the goal, the visitors had hardly had an effort on target all match, but ex Espanyol striker Milosevic picked up a ball in the area and rounded Lopo to shoot past Lemmens and make it two. He refused to celebrate the goal though out of respect for his old colleagues.

Clemente made his last changes, bringing on Jordi Cruyff and then Raúl Molina, but then disaster struck again when Torricelli only half hit his back pass, and Lemmens crashed in to Juanfran as he nipped in to steal the ball away. Penalty and red card for the keeper, and with all three substitutions made, Torricelli put on the keeper's jersey. He could do nothing about Mostovoi's spot kick though, and the match was over as a contest.

After that Lotina ordered his players not to score any more, somewhat embarrassed about what was going on. Young substitute Jandro couldn't resist though when the Italian veteran went walk about, and he lobbed him from midfield to make it four near the end. A good result for the Galicians, who needed a win after poor results in the league and a defeat in the Champions' League midweek. Espanyol though ended the weekend clear bottom on two points, their worst start ever to a season in the first division. Even so, management said that team coach Javier Clemente stays for now. If they lose again on Wednesday's visit to Santander (which would be a record seven in a row), they could change their mind.
